THE NEW YORK CHRISTMASTIMES

Francis Marshall drew for Vogue (I have a copy of his Drawing the Female Figure around here. I’ll get around to sharing some of it eventually). A trip to the USA yielded An Englishman in New York, a 1949 slice-of-life.

‘Tis the season, so I’ve isolated the Christmas bits, including a drawing or three of how Lord & Taylor’s preps for the holidays. Writes Marshall, “Park Avenue has rows of Christmas trees down the middle, and against the lights of the Grand Central Building the whole scene looks like the setting of a ballet.”

The older fellow is shopping for a music box at FAO Schwarz. By the way, see you later, FAO Schwarz.
