It’s hard to believe that Laurel and Hardy aren’t the result of covalent bonding, like hydrogen and oxygen becoming water. But they made films with other comedians before settling into the team everybody now thinks is a natural. But whose brainstorm was it to keep them together? Stan and Ollie themselves? Their director, Leo McCarey, possibly. The Hal Roach website stops short of giving Roach himself the credit.
